Music from scraps of paper found on my desk
aka: “This is the mixtape I would make for you in September 2008 if you were my friend and I had a budget to buy music”. Of course I would be using the original versions, not the live versions in several of these links, but you get the idea.
“Cigarette Case” - Spoon
“Scratch my name” — The Noisettes
“Stays”, Dead Disco“, etc — Metric (Metric keeps popping up on various scraps of paper) Most of their stuff is mellower than Dead Disco.
? - Sexy Champions (I have this band’s name written down and then crossed off. Make of that what you will)
“Low Happening” - Howling Bells
– Blood Red Shoes — Not sure what song I was thinking about. Can’t find one that sounds familiar enough. Maybe “I wish I was a better person”?
“I call it Art”, “The Good Ones” – The Kills
– Butterfly Boucher
“Backfire at the Disco” (mp3) (video) — The Wombats
– Maximo Park
“You, Me, Dancing!” — Los Campesinos
“Running Away” — Polyphonic Spree
I was going to say “NightSwimming” (REM cover) by” You Say Party, We Say Die!”, but on reflection it’s a pretty boring version of that song, AND it’s not really typical of YSPWSD, so I would suggest you look for something else. What - I have do ALL the work for you?
“Pink Light” — Laura Veirs
“Breakable” - Ingrid Michaelson
“So High So Low So Wide So Long” — These United States
“Wizard Flurry Home” — Mariee Sioux
“I could be nothing” or “Your Rocky Spine“– Great Lake Swimmers
(One of my newer favorites along with Thao Nguyen & the Get Down Stay Down (“Bag of Hammers”), and Eisley (“Treetops”)
“Kite Song — Rosie Thomas (the song, not the video)
“Everybody Here is a Cloud” — Cloud Cult
“The Story” — Brandi Carlisle
and an older song i don’t know if I posted before: “Mr Blue” — Catherine Feeny

Cakey
Sometimes I forget the point of the internet. All the spam email and pr0n pop-ups and drug ads, the lame-myspace pages, just all the meaningless drivel that passes for i don’t know what. But then something comes along that reminds you what all these billions of dollars worth of computers and fiber optic cable were meant for. Something like…. “Cakey”.

be sure to watch all the episodes IN ORDER (1-7), BEFORE you watch the unofficial secret finale below (the finale is inexplicably also numbered Episode #4 but don’t confuse it with the regular #4 above)

sleep
helped z move early last week so got a co-worker to cover my morning paper-route. first time I’ve slept past 5AM in over a year. just re-read that. wow. for a non-morning person that’s some kind of accomplishment. or a reflection on just how adaptable us humans are. I hope it’s the former and not an indicator that I am the proverbial frog in the slowly warming soon to be boiling water.I was re-reading some comments on this blog and found one from Dec 6th 2006 where I talked about getting more efficient in my delivery so I could sleep in till 3AM instead of getting up at 2:30AM as I had been doing. WTH? I never leave the house before 4AM these days, and as long as I get to work by 4:30 I am always done by 6AM. This morning I didn’t wake up until 4:50AM, raced to work (stopping for gas on the way because I was on E) frantically bagged half the papers (a co-worker put them together for me (he can do 170 papers in like 5 minutes. Seriously) so I took the rest to bag on the road. I didn’t start delivering the first paper until 5:30AM, but I was done by 6:10AM. I wish there were a set of 10 commandments for newspaper home-delivery customers. #1 would be: “If you want the newspaper delivered someplace specific, make sure that place is accessible”. And by accessible I mean if you want your 5-8 lb paper on your front stairs don’t clutter your stairs with fragile religious statuary or fragile flowers. If you want it on your walkway TOWARDS your stairs, don’t line your walkway with fragile solar lights like a mini landing strip. And most of all…”If you want your newspaper delivered inside your newspaper tube, DON’T PARK YOUR !@#!@#ing car RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TUBE”.I will NOT get out of my car and walk around your car and reach around to put the paper in your tube. You get it on the ground NEAR your tube. Don’t like it”? Fine, complain. I am still not getting out of my car BECAUSE YOU PARKED IN FRONT OF YOUR TUBE.I don’t even car if you tip. Got it? Good. I feel better knowing we are on the same page.
