fight club

I completely related to Edward Norton’s character’s description of his life at the beginning of “Fight Club”. When you don’t sleep (enough), nothing does seem real. i don’t have insomnia, but I rarely get more than 5 hours sleep at a time. Most days that’s all I get. Lately I have been seeing things. Not scary or dramatic things, but I’ll think I see someone hunched over by the side of the road and when I look again I see it’s a fire hydrant. Today while driving in heavy traffic I thought i saw a person hanging on to the running board/door of a tractor-trailer. Seemed awfully unlikely so I looked again as soon as I could see it through the forest of SUVs and I think what I originally mistook for a person was just a large chromish light fixture or horn attachment on the bumper.

I see things that ARE there too. The other morning was nature day, animals all over the place. Rabbits trying to cross the road, thrill seeking squirrels playing chicken with my car, birds, later in the day a fox.

Laughing at each other as we winced walking on tiny proto sand pebbles and freezing at the beach on a 90 degree day. (sjk)

Listening to the girls reminisce about the people and events in SquishyTown. Hanging out with mom and dad.

15 seconds…

I am in a (very) short film. Warning: The content and or imagery or subject matter of the film might offend some people. My part is wholly inoffensive, unless one finds my ficticious portrayal of someone from a certain profession as stereotypically negative.

The warning on the site is: “Viewer warning: suggestive themes and depictions of presidential sexuality.” To that I would add a language advisory if you don’t like non-radio friendly language.
But if you are aware of what offends you and what doesn’t and aren’t going to complain about something being offensive after having been warned, then you can see the film here.

Also, if you have a pretty good idea that someone is going to find the content in the film offensive, please don’t forward the link to them just because they know someone in the film.

Hearing and Seeing

Song playing: Kathryn Williams - Hallelujah

Animals I saw early morning that had or were attempting to cross the road: Dead Raccoon. Live Turkey. Live Squirrell. Live Rabbit. (different locations)

Recently viewed: Max Headroom (first episode), the final few episodes of season 1 of Veronica Mars. Heroes, Lost.

It occurred to me that almost every television show I’ve watched regularly in the past few years is of the episodic drama genre with the ubiquitous “previously on…” segment at the beginning of each show. (ex. Buffy, Angel, Alias, Lost, Heroes, Veronica Mars)

fiddling around

I am very productive when avoiding something more important I should be doing. I wish I could use that to my advantage and fool myself into working on the important things while avoiding the less important ones. So far no luck.

Anyways, a few months back I decided to try to migrate my blogger managed blogs into WordPress. I already had WordPress installed on both vinylrake.org and another site I maintain and I’ve been extremely pleased with it. The posting/publishing is even easier than blogger, or at least as easy - especially when using Flock as my browser of choice, and the customization options are much greater. I thought maybe I could load all my blogs into a single wordpress blog seperating/organizing them by ‘topic’. Some of it went really quickly some of it less so. The WordPress import blog feature was just amazing (not sure if it works as well with the new blogger design) - a couple of clicks and my entire flot blog - YEARS of posts was magically imported into my WP blog. Wow. I am impressed. Imported a few more and started seeing the limitations - e.g. A search searches through ALL my topics, archive pages contain archives for ALL the topics, etc when what I want for at least a few of the blogs is unique page design, topic specific search and results, topic specific archive lists, etc. hmmm. A little more complicated than I would like, and more complicated than bloggers one topic per blog design, but on the plus side I _do_ now have a near compete site search and I can post an item in more than one category.

I also added a bunch of single pages and older projects back into the menus on the site - mostly as standalone html/php pages, but they can be found in the new and improved Attic section.
