Good news
The hunt for a house I can afford has been going dismally. Everything in my range is either so tiny they could only really work as starter homes for growth stunted hobbits, or so in need of repair the homes were not that far removed from crack houses, or were on leased land so there was no way I could get a mortgage for it.
Last night I went to a HUD owned home and the bidding closed at midnight. I bid more than I wanted to because I was desperate, the very top of what I could afford because there was no give and take no finding out what the highest bids to date were. I was slightly paranoid because all the utilities were turned off so I don’t even know if everything works or not. I can get an inspection and if anything *major* turns up I can get out of the sale but I don’t know how they test heat and electricity and plumbing if everything is turned off. Hmmm. All night last night I felt that horrible panic that I done something dreadfully wrong that I bid too much that the house would be a disaster I had to resist the urge to go online and find out what else I could get for that amount (though I have been doing just that for months and have found nothing near suitable).
This morning I got the call that I got the house. I think it will be ok, but I am still nervous as hell. Of course this is the first time that _I_ have done a grownup thing like buy a house on my own. In the past it was always someone else who did all the coordinating of finances and house purchase details. I’ve never done it on my own. Guess it’s time I grew up a bit.

Free Speech is ok as long as you agree with Bush
Free speech is ok as long as you don’t criticize the government. First is was the elementary school kid who was interviewed by the Secret Service because he drew pictures that portrayed Bush in unflattering and violent ways, now a high school teacher is suspended because he didn’t censor a poem one of his students wrote that is critical of Bush. Art teachers at the school have been fired for similar offenses found in student artwork.

what annoys me
You know what annoys me? A call from a cell phone that is made in less than ideal situations (e.g. loud music heard in background) to ask me something that would take ONE SENTENCE but it gets stretched out so long that the cell phone loses it’s connection requiring 3 phone calls to have what should have been a
