People are “jerky” the world over.
This story about the working conditions and physical abuse of some store workers was really quite frightening, but one line struck me as odd. One of the victims said that her boss subjected the employees to “various forms of physical abuse committed by Sy[the store manager] in the guise of jerky acts”. If I understand this right the employee was saying the owner was “only” intending to do jerky things like hit and mistreat his co-workers, not to physically “abuse” them. I guess I don’t understand the line of seperation the worker is attempting to draw here.

It would be simpler if we would just stop eating meat.
Many species of Albatrosses are becoming endangered because of long-line fishing practices. Ironically, the long-line fishing is in reaction to the ban on the large “wall of death” net fishing that was banned by international agreement because it was endangering too many kinds of fish not intended for catching.

Chilly Exposure
Showing that exposing oneself to strangers is not a well-thought out rational deed, this story about a flasher was remarkable for anyone in the Boston area because of _when_ this took place. Mid-Late last week the temperature even during the day in the Boston area rarely rose above 10 degrees.
