no one reads the fine print anyways
I have decided that people do not pay attention to web sites. I have a few web pages on this site related to a series of computer games. The name of the series of games is “Myth”. So the games have titles like “Myth : The Fallen Lords”, “Myth: Soulblighter”, etc. Now pretty much every month without fail the report of searches people do on those pages will be full of terms related to myths, NOT to the game. There is nothing on the pages that looks remotely “myth”like, so people must just be keying on the name “myth”. Last month’s list included the following terms that were searched on:
Here are the top phrases searched:
- 3 for “silkie”
- 2 for “cruddle”
- 2 for “cuddle”
- 1 for “a sinoh”
- 1 for “gilgamesh”
- 1 for “gillgamesh”
- 1 for “jinn”
- 1 for “madsa”
- 1 for “zeus”

thoughts on directional breaking
I got to wondering about the difference between things breaking UP and things breaking DOWN. At first it seemed the expressions were used randomly and the direction UP/DOWN was situationally arbitrary, but after a bit of thought here is what I came up with. Probably obvious to everyone else in the world, but it wasn’t to ME.
the examples I could come up with were:
Engines and machinery break down
Ships and planes break up
Communication breaks down
Companies break up
Relationships break down
Couples and marriages break up
From this I figure that;
Break down is when something stops working
Break up is when things split apart into smaller separate pieces (usually after or as they stop working)

Sublime enjoyment
Jonathan Richman live - marvelous shows (I went both nights). Both shows were remarkably different, 70% different songs, all different song order, different stories, patter, etc. It is hard to describe the fun of a jonathan richman live performance. As a friend said “He looks _right_ at the audience and smiles as if he’s happy just to see you there, or just because *you* are happy”. JR is an often silly troubador of the heart who feels things so deeply and manages somehow to convey the emotion and the enjoyment behind such simple things as walking in the city or swinging on a swingset when you were a kid, and he does it despite sometimes forced or silly rhymes. As a performer he is just remarkable. It is hard not to share in his sense of love of the world when you experience him live.
